What is Contra?

Contra is a social dance with 6-20 people within circles and lines. You will interact with other couples in the line. The caller will guide you through the steps before & during the music. It is fast paced with lots of swinging and weaving amongst your group. Contra dancing is known for its welcoming atmosphere, where dancers of all skill levels can join in, creating a sense of camaraderie and shared enjoyment on the dance floor.

If you would like to try our newest dance format, simply show up on dance night. Beginners should come from 6:00-6:30 to learn some basic moves. Then, from 6:30-8:30 we will start dancing.  Be sure to check our Facebook page. If I have to cancel a class, it will show up there first. Wear comfortable shoes like tennis shoes or flats. If you have questions, text 806-543-1928.

These are clips from dances we have done this year. Most of our dances are in two lines, but we also do at least one circle mixer each time and periodically a square or Scottish dance.

What you don't see is the 10 minutes spent before each dance learning the moves.

Our dance hall is on 120th Street - 1 block east of University.
